Sunday was another bottling day and I can give a quick update on the progress of the German Alt style beer that we brewed. The gravity out of the fermenter was 1.006 and we had an original gravity of 1.042. This gives us a final ABV of 4.7%. This is lower than we had originally hoped, this recipe had us shooting for an original gravity of 1.052 which would have given us an ABV closer to 6%.
We ended up getting just shy of 5 gallons out of the fermenter and we were able to get about 51 12oz bottles filled before our bottling wand started to get some gunk stuck in it.
We tasted the sample we took the final gravity with. I think that the beer seemed to be a little light in flavor which might also be a product of us missing the target original gravity. Overall though, I think the beer will turn out quite well. I look forward to getting to taste the final product in 2 more weeks after the bottle condition is done.
